At an April 20th memorial service for his friend Christopher Hitchens, theoretical physicist Lawrence Krauss delivered a loving, charming eulogy in which he described his friend’s attitude to life. “… He had the courage to accept the world for just what it is and not for what we’d like it to be …. Christopher understood that the universe doesn’t care about our existence, our welfare, and epitomized the realization that our lives only have the meaning we give them … “.
It is hard to imagine the reality principle expressed as beautifully and succinctly as this.
Dr. Krauss was in effect describing his friend’s transcendence of cognitive narcissism and the dazzling world of possibility that this opened up.
We should all be so blessed with such understanding, and with such good friends too.
Listen and be enthralled.
